“My father started the company 50 years ago with one truck, a mower and some tools. Over the years, he took on any landscape job he could get, and the company started to grow.”

– David DuBois, Mission Landscape President & CEO.

By the time David Dubois was in high school, his father had multiplied that single landscaping truck into a couple dozen. As a teen, David started his journey inside Mission Landscape’s warehouse as a gopher. “I was fixing things, running trucks around – anything to help keep everyone moving,” said David.

After graduation, David was moved into the field; he’ll never forget his first day. “I remember telling my first foreman Javier, I’m going out with you today. He just said to me, get in the back of the truck.” Over the years, David learned a number of invaluable skills and lessons from his co-workers. “I learned Spanish from the guys, maintenance techniques, and they taught me the importance of using the right tools to do the job.”

David continued to work his way through the company until his father decided it was time to step away. During that period, technology was rapidly changing the landscaping business. “When my father decided to retire, I bought the company because I truly loved it.”

Despite an evolution in the tools they used to do the work, David promised not to change the way they treated their clients or their employees. “Our business has grown organically, and that says a lot.”

Today, Mission Landscape has grown from a single employee driving one truck, to 520 employees working with a fleet of 200 trucks. “When you think back on that, it keeps you grounded. You know the work it takes because you’ve been there, and that keeps you connected to the people in the field.”

While the company’s growth over the last five decades is impressive, to David’s father it’s Mission Landscape’s reputation that makes him most proud. “Values are made at the dinner table, and we’ve kept his same set of values over the years,” said David.
