The Perfect Time to Reinvest: Irrigation

In California, we are accustomed to a fairly consistent climate. However, residents in California know that the summer can reach triple digits. Heat and a lack of moisture can be detrimental to a plant’s survival, so finding time to make sure your landscape can survive a harsh summer is crucial to maintaining a beautiful community all year long.

When is the best time to reinvest:

During the winter, we typically see more moisture and like to take advantage of the “wet season”. In order to do repairs and upgrades, irrigation systems may be turned off. With temperatures cooler and more rainfall, winter is an ideal time to reinvest in or enhance your property. If you delay changes to the summer, you run the risk of harming plants.

What areas to reinvest in:

Making drastic changes in the summer can be dangerous if you do not act quickly. Taking time in winter to inspect your irrigation is key. This includes checking for leaks and installing smart controllers. These types of upgrades work great for saving you money on your water bill throughout the whole year. Smart controllers allow you to maximize efficiencies throughout your property after their installation. Another tip is adjusting your coverage patterns. Coverage patterns are the area your irrigation reaches By adjusting the coverage patterns on your property you can allocate the proper amount of water to each area and reduce the amount of waste. Testing each area to make sure your sprinklers are hitting their desired areas and pressure adjustment can also make big difference. One or more of these upgrades could lead to drastic savings for you down the road.

  • Thank you for mentioning that delaying modifications to the summer risks damaging plants. My father wants to make a few irrigation repairs to our garden now that winter is over. I’ll advise him to get in touch with an irrigation repair company as soon as possible before summer to prevent the risk.
