As a young boy, Mission Landscape’s Senior VP of Operations Jesse Perez worked on the weekends helping his father with landscaping jobs. “When I was small, I swore I was not going to be in this industry even though I had an appreciation for it.” 

Years later, despite his childhood declaration, Jesse took his first landscaping job. While time had cultivated a new appreciation for the industry, something didn’t feel right. “I had a job I really wasn’t happy with, and a friend recommended applying at Mission Landscape,” said Jesse. That was 22 years ago.

When Jesse joined the team, Mission Landscape only had about 100 employees. He started in the HR department, moved to Maintenance Division Manager, and was eventually promoted to Senior VP of Operations. “I think I’ve stayed so long because I really identify with our owner David and how passionate he is about the company and his employees. There are a lot of companies out there that put profits first, and we don’t. We put people first.”

Jesse also credits his two-decade tenure with Mission Landscape’s emphasis on their core values. The values, which include Safety, Teamwork, Integrity, Quality, and Service, make his job easier.  Jesse says, “As long as we keep our core values in mind, we know we’re making the right decisions.”

With over 500 employees today, one of Jesse’s favorite things to do is talk to new team members about their experiences. “I’ve had a lot of conversations with employees about their plans to stay with Mission Landscape for the foreseeable future. And after two decades, I can relate to that.”
